Curriculum Intent

Our maths curriculum follows the principles of mastery, as outlined by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), ensuring students acquire a deep and adaptable understanding. Topics are taught sequentially, with each new concept building on prior knowledge, making mathematical learning accessible, enjoyable, and stimulating for all. The curriculum offers the right balance of challenge and support, enabling every student to achieve their best and progress to further study.

Key Stage 3

Taught through 4.5 x 55-minute periods each week

Students explore the links between mathematical topics, connecting their learning from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4. We focus on developing fluency in mathematical concepts and structures, ensuring students can apply their knowledge to both routine and non-routine problems. This learning is enhanced with activities that encourage students to draw on previously mastered material, promoting problem-solving and mathematical reasoning.

Key Stage 4

Taught through 5 x 55-minute periods each week (6 for Year 11)

Students follow the Edexcel specification, building on their mathematical knowledge and skills to prepare for GCSEs and beyond. They engage with exam-style questions and develop techniques to succeed in their assessments. Our goal is to ensure every student reaches their full potential, regardless of background or prior learning, equipping them with the mathematical skills necessary for everyday life and further study.
